Senator Tammy Baldwin is looking to help pregnant and postpartum mothers with her latest bill.
The Wisconsin Senator joined forces with New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen and 4th District Wisconsin Representative Gwen Moore to introduce the Mental Health and Making Access More Affordable (MAMA) Act.
The trio says this legislation looks to make mental health and addiction services for pregnant and postpartum women more affordable.
Specifically, the bill would ensure that private and public health care plans that cover mental health care and addiction treatment provide that care without a copay.
Sen. Baldwin said of the measure, “We know pregnancy and postpartum can be extremely difficult, but too many expecting and new mothers still do not have access to the mental health care and support for addiction they need during these critical months. I’m proud to support this commonsense legislation, which will unlock sometimes lifesaving mental health and addiction care for millions of Americans, so mothers and babies are set up for success.”
