A Texas man charged with a 2023 attempted homicide will go to trial in March.
62-year-old David Downs was back in Manitowoc County court on Wednesday (January 22nd) for a pre-trial conference as both prosecutors and his defense discussed his demand for a speedy trial.
Judge Mark Roher also asked that the jury instructions be prepared for the trial, which will start on March 9th.
Downs faces charges of attempted 1st-degree intentional homicide, substantial battery intending bodily harm, and battery after a man was stabbed in Manitowoc with a butcher knife.
A witness called 911 after seeing the stabbing, and as police arrived, a criminal complaint says he fled on foot.
The victim said they didn’t know what provoked the 62-year-old to stab them.
Manitowoc Police say Downs shoved the victim to the ground after becoming angry and then slowly pushed the knife into the victim’s body.
