An Eastern Wisconsin Senator had a very successful week.
Sen. Andre Jacque saw six of his bills pass at various levels, including his “No Tax On Tips” legislation.
The measure, officially known as Senate Bill 36, passed the Senate by a 21-12 vote, and the companion bill passed the Assembly last week.
However, the Assembly must approve some technical changes made by the Joint Finance Committee before a final version can be sent to the governor.
Also passing in the Senate was Assembly Bill 19, which aims to increase penalties for crimes committed against “adults at risk” and protect survivors.
It is now headed to Governor Tony Evers’ desk for final approval.
Sen. Jacque’s Foreign Adversary Land Ban bill, officially known as Senate Bill 7, was highly contested, passing on a narrow 18-15 vote in the Senate.
This bill would prohibit anyone from a country hostile to the United States from purchasing or owning property in Wisconsin, and require those who do so to divest.
Its companion legislation, AB 30, was set to be voted on in the Assembly on Thursday (January 22nd).
Another contested bill was Senate Bill 417, which looks to create a compassionate, balanced approach to visitations during a pandemic.
It passed the Senate on a 19-14 vote, but still needs to be voted on by the Assembly.
Sen. Jacque’s Senate Bill 253, which would allow Wisconsin to retain concurrent jurisdiction on federal lands when cases involve juveniles, and Senate Bill 225, which aims to eliminate duplicative regulations that campground owners who install and operate amusement rides face, both passed on a voice vote.
