A western Wisconsin lawmaker is proposing new legislation aimed at improving school safety across Wisconsin.
State Senator Jesse James has introduced the Senate versions of bills that would revise how schools develop and carry out safety plans.
The proposals would create standardized lockdown announcements during emergencies and require schools to clearly communicate with students and families when an incident occurs.
The Thorp Republican says the measures were prompted by the deadly Abundant Life school shooting in Madison in 2024.
