A Wisconsin state senator is highlighting three bills making their way through the Wisconsin Legislature, with one heading to Governor Tony Evers’ desk.
State Senator Andre Jacque of New Franken explains that Senate Bill 387, authored by State Representative Ben Franklin, clarifies the definition of a veteran to include former members of the U.S. armed forces who received a discharge under honorable conditions and former Reserve and National Guard members who have met the requirements of their initial term of obligated service and have been honorably discharged.
Sen. Jacque explains that all 50 states currently offer a military veteran designation, which can be printed on state-issued driver’s licenses or IDs as of 2013.
The New Franken Republican explains that if the bill is signed into law, “it will honor the service of all who have sacrificed in defense of America, regardless of whether in active duty, in the Reserve, or in the National Guard.”
The bill could be signed into law by Governor Evers in the future.
A second bill would expand PTSD coverage for emergency responders, while the third would protect healthcare for disabled workers.
Assembly Bill 253 would remove the cap on earnings that can be deposited into the Medical Assistance Purchase Plan (MAPP) for eligible participants, allowing them to deposit more into the program.
The two bills mentioned still need to pass the full Wisconsin Senate before they can be sent to the governor’s office.
