
Two of the better high school girls’ basketball teams meet in Kewaunee tonight as 13-3 Manitowoc Lutheran visits 12-3 Kewaunee.
The Lancers are coming off an impressive victory against Elkhart Lake/Glenbeulah Tuesday night, holding the Resorters to 23 points.
Defense has been a huge reason for their success as they’ve held their opponents to just under 47 points per game.
Offensively, senior guard Makiah Krause continues to light it up, averaging better than 19 points per game while shooting 49 percent from the floor, including nearly 38 percent from three-point range.
She also grabs nearly five rebounds and dishes out close to three assists per contest.
Senior Marissa Melhiorn scores 13 points per game and leads the Lancers, corralling more than nine boards per contest.
Senior Lily Melhorn leads the Lancers with more than four assists per game, while senior Abby Behnke is a force on the glass, averaging seven and a half rebounds per game.
Kewaunee sits atop the Packerland conference, having won all seven league games thus far, and has a half-game lead over Algoma.
Junior Jade Kroll is having an outstanding season averaging nearly 22 points per game on 52 percent shooting.
Senior Gabby Stangel scores the ball at better than 10 points per game.
The Storm rebound the ball extraordinarily well, grabbing 42 boards per contest, 25 of which are on the offensive end, while they also tough defensively, giving up just 41 points per contest.
These two teams have had memorable battles, most recently a Division Four Sectional semifinal in Denmark last March, won by the Lancers in overtime.
Game time is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
Elsewhere, Roncalli is home for Sheboygan Falls, Two Rivers travels to Brillion, Valders hosts Chilton, Ozaukee travels to Reedsville, Kiel hosts New Holstein, in a battle between two Division Four state-ranked teams, 10th ranked Howards Grove plays at 17th ranked Kohler.
Another battle of state-ranked teams has St. Mary Catholic hosting Pacelli of Stevens Point.
Sheboygan Lutheran is home for Providence Academy of Green Bay, Sheboygan Christian hosts Random Lake as part of a girl-boy doubleheader, Oconto heads to Algoma, Sturgeon Bay hosts Peshtigo, Southern Door welcomes Sevastopol, and Green Bay NEW Lutheran heads up to Gibraltar to battle the Vikings.
