A Manitowoc man charged with stealing money from his elderly father will get some jail time.
During a court hearing last Friday (January 16th), 49-year-old Jeremy Ruelle pleaded no contest to theft of movable property between $5,000 and $10,000 and felony bail jumping.
A charge of misappropriation of an ID was dismissed but read into the record. Manitowoc Police began investigating after Ruelle’s sister said he had taken money from their father’s wallet from his home as they moved him into an assisted living facility.
Ruelle was sentenced to four months in the county jail and three years of probation.
He must also take an alcohol assessment and must maintain full-time employment.
A criminal complaint says the 48-year-old spent over $6,800 at places like Kwik Trip, Walmart, and Piggly Wiggly, and also withdrew cash from various ATMs.
Ruelle told officers that his father had permitted him to spend the money, but police said the father did not say that.
