Five people were arrested after a police pursuit in Fond du Lac County this weekend.
A deputy with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Rolling Meadows Drive in the Town of Lamartine yesterday (January 18th).
The stop was initiated due to the vehicle’s plates returning as “no vehicle associated,” meaning they did not belong to the vehicle they were on.
When the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver fled at a high rate of speed, initiating the pursuit along Highway 23.
During the approximately 23-minute chase, the driver, identified as a 20-year-old male from Black Creek, made multiple U-turns to avoid spike strips and, at times, drove directly at authorities to evade capture.
The 24-mile pursuit came to an end when the vehicle attempted to hide near a farm on Forest Avenue Road.
When they came to a stop, the driver and four other occupants, all under the age of 21, exited and were taken into custody.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered marijuana and alcohol, while a black bag containing a firearm was found hidden beneath a nearby building.
The driver was charged with a lengthy list of charges, including multiple counts of Recklessly Endangering Safety, Felony Fleeing and Eluding, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
The passengers also received citations for underage possession of alcohol and drug paraphernalia.
No injuries were reported following the incident, and no law enforcement or civilian vehicles, minus the suspect vehicle, were damaged.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office also thanked the Wisconsin State Patrol for assisting in the pursuit.
