No one was injured after Manitowoc Fire and Rescue put out a fire over the weekend.
Battalion Chief Jeremey Wagner tells Seehafernews.com that the department received a transmission of alarm on Saturday (January 17th) at 6:40 a.m. for a report of a possible fire in the 1800 block of Johnston Drive.
The first fire engine arrived on scene within 2 minutes and found smoke and flames emanating from the structure’s roof.
Firefighters quickly deployed hoses and began extinguishing the fire on the interior of the building; however, the roof was starting to fail and could have collapsed.
All units were asked to exit the building as Manitowoc Fire Rescue began a defensive operation to secure the roof. The fire was extinguished at the site where it started.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it appears to have started in a truck inside the building.
The extent of the fire damage is not known at this time.
Manitowoc Fire Rescue was assisted by multiple departments, including Two Rivers, Branch, and Newton Fire Departments, Manitowoc Police, Manitowoc County Joint Dispatch, and Manitowoc Public Utilities.
The department also thanks Bob Braun Excavating for the use of their front-end loader to pull the affected vehicle out of the building.
