The Appleton Police Department is refuting a video being shared claiming ICE was in the city.
The department was made aware of the video circulating online of police in a neighborhood in tactical uniforms.
While the video said it was ICE, APD says they were not.
Instead, they were member of a local multijurisdictional drug task force operating in Appleton with support from their department.
If the identity of an officer in Appleton is ever in question, Appleton Police say residents can call them to find out what’s happening.
The department also released its Immigration Violations Policy, which includes a section stating that all people, regardless of immigration status, “must feel secure that contacting or being addressed by members of law enforcement will not automatically lead to immigration inquiry and/or deportation.”
Appleton Police Officers are also not notifying federal immigration officials when booking arrestees, as any notification will be handled in accordance with jail operations procedures.
