A Two Rivers man facing child abuse charges has had his bail set.
24-year-old David Flores made his initial appearance in court yesterday (January 13th), where he was given a $2,000 cash bail by Court Commissioner Patricia Koppa on a single count of Physical Abuse of a Child, Intending Great Bodily Harm.
Flores was charged after being arrested earlier this week in connection with an incident that occurred back in November.
A Detective with the Manitowoc Police Department was made aware on December 23rd of the potential child abuse case by Manitowoc County Child Protective Services (CPS), naming the 24-year-old as the suspect.
According to the police report, Flores entered the victim’s room, telling them and another child to be quiet.
In their response, the victim, identified as Victim 1, called Flores ‘bro,’ to which he took exception.
He then challenged the victim to call him bro again, which the child did. In response, Flores struck the child with a belt before punching and kicking them, causing visible injuries.
After the incident, the 24-year-old contacted the child’s other guardian, admitting to the abuse, stating he “beat Victim 1’s a**.”
The other guardian and CPS provided images to the Detective, showing the injuries the child had sustained after being kicked, punched, hit with a belt, and thrown into a door frame.
Other conditions of his bail include a strict no-contact order with the victim and anyone under the age of 18.
Flores will return to court on Tuesday (January 20th) for a preliminary hearing in Branch 4.
