One man is in critical condition after a car accident in Fond du Lac County.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office received a call just before 9:00 a.m. yesterday (January 13th) reporting a single-vehicle crash at an address on County Highway OO in the Town of Lamartine.
The initial call also indicated that the vehicle had left the roadway and struck a boat and trailer.
Upon arrival, Sheriff’s Deputies as well as first responders from the North Fond du Lac Fire/EMS and the Lamartine Volunteer Fire Department determined that an SUV was traveling eastbound on OO.
The vehicle then encountered a patch of black ice, causing the driver to lose control, enter the ditch, and ultimately strike the trailered boat.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 78-year-old Pickett man, sustained significant injuries and was flown by Flight for Life to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center–Neenah.
At last word, the 78-year-old was considered to be in critical condition. Initial investigations show that the driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident, while black ice and road conditions are believed to be contributing factors.
In their announcement, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Village of North Fond du Lac Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Fond du Lac County Highway Department for their assistance.
