The Manitowoc Public School District is moving forward with a critical maintenance plan for its buildings.
The school board could approve going out to bid during their regular school board meeting tonight.
Superintendent Lee Thennes explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest program that the project would be a request for proposal or RFP.
“For some general contracting work,” he explained. “They will help us manage the various construction projects that we would have in the district over the summer.”
On their agenda, each school will get different work done, including lighting fixes, asphalt upgrades, sign replacements, and plumbing work.
Lincoln High School will get the most work done, totaling about $6 million, followed by Monroe Elementary at $1.5 million and Franklin Elementary Schools at about $1.4 million.
Some schools also have about $6.4 million in proposed projects, which could be included.
Without the proposed projects, MPSD is expected to spend about $16 million.
The money came from the 2025 Spring Election referendum, allowing the district to borrow $25 million for fixing its buildings.
More information can be found on the MPSD’s website under their regular board meeting agenda.
