Bail has been set for a Green Bay man facing a long list of charges after a hate crime incident.
Court records show that 56-year-old James S. Petras made his initial appearance in Brown County court on Monday (January 5th).
At the hearing, Petras was formally charged with five felonies and four misdemeanors, including Second-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety with a hate crime enhancer and four counts of Threat to Cause Bodily Harm to Certain Individuals Involved with a Court or Legal System.
He is also facing two additional charges that have been enhanced as hate crimes after an incident that took place last Friday (January 2nd).
WBAY reports that the 56-year-old was arrested following an interaction at Green Bay’s Colburn Park. It’s alleged that Petras approached a black man, pointed a handgun at him, used the n-word multiple times, and said he was going to kill him.
When confronted by police, Petras was found intoxicated in his vehicle. While being placed under arrest, he attempted to kick officers and made threats towards the officers and their families.
Petras was given a $150,000 cash bail and remains in custody at the Brown County Jail.
He will return to court on February 11th for a status conference.
