An Appleton man is in custody after robbing numerous people in the City of Oshkosh.
Officer Kate Mann with the Oshkosh Police Department has said that they investigated three thefts involving the sale of cell phones via Facebook Marketplace in December.
These thefts took place on December 22nd, 24th, and 27th at the corner of East Parkway and Monroe Street, in the 600 Block of E Parkway, and in the 700 Block of Wright Street.
During the incidents, victims would post a phone for sale on Marketplace and arrange to meet a buyer.
The so-called buyer, a 31-year-old Appleton man, would meet with the victims, take the phones without paying, and flee the scene.
An extensive investigation would follow and ultimately track down the suspect who was located and arrested by the Fox Crossing Police Department on Friday (January 2nd).
The unnamed suspect has been charged with two counts of Theft, one count of Strong-Armed Robbery, and nine counts of Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.
In their announcement, the Oshkosh Police Department urged the public to take the proper precautions when buying or selling items on platforms such as Facebook Marketplace, which are rife with scammers.
