There will be no more overdue fees at the Manitowoc Public Library.
The library announced it is going fee-free on late materials, joining 76% of other Wisconsin public libraries in an effort to expand access to its collection.
Executive Director Karin Adams explains that the mission of the Manitowoc Public Library is to provide access to information and to enhance the community’s educational, recreational, and cultural needs.
She continues saying, “charging fines undermines our mission. Eliminating overdue fines ultimately increases access to the library and benefits our entire community. We understand that life happens and sometimes people are late; there will no longer be a financial punishment due to a simple late return.”
The change was approved by the Library Board of Trustees as part of their 2026 budget.
