The Town of Newton is starting the new year strong after meeting a fundraising goal.
The Town’s Facebook page explains that they’ve reached their $250,000 donation mark for building their new firehouse on Carstens Lake Road.
The money raised will be doubled with a matching grant, helping cut down on initial costs. Newton officials say they’ve had some residents ask why their taxes didn’t go up as much this year.
The Town noted that the projected increase for the new fire station will show up on the 2026 tax statement.
The campaign to raise the $250,000 through the Kruidenier Charitable Foundation started after the Town of Newton broke ground for the new fire station, which happened after residents voted to allow their village board to borrow up to $7.5 million.
Their old first station has become too small to store all the fire engines, equipment, and changing area for firefighters.
The new fire station is being built directly across from their old one. The entire project is expected to be finished this year.
