In 2025, a program from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources celebrated its 10th birthday.
Snapshot Wisconsin, the DNR’s statewide wildlife monitoring project, not only marked a decade of service, but also celebrated its 100 millionth trail camera photo.
Throughout 2025, the DNR was also able to deploy new equipment across Wisconsin to give them a better understanding of the state’s wildlife in regard to seasonal changes.
Every day, Snapshot Wisconsin captures hundreds of images of animals in their natural habitats, interacting with one another, their ecosystem, and even the trail cams themselves.
Through the project, any given day, you can witness a black bear standing on its hind legs scratching its back on the base of a pine tree, a pack of wolves patrolling a meadow, or even a bird hitching a ride on the back of a white-tailed deer.
While serving as an important tool for state conservationists, Snapshot Wisconsin also allows Wisconsinites the opportunity to see the beauty our state has to offer.
