A man caught stealing again in Manitowoc has made his initial appearance in court.
34-year-old Fong Vang was given a $500 cash bail by Court Commissioner Patricia Koppa as he faces a charge of Retail Theft and four counts of Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.
These charges came about when Manitowoc Police were called to the Kwik Trip on South 10th Street on Monday morning (December 29th) on a report of a theft.
Officers were shown an image of the suspect, who was positively identified as Vang due to previous run-ins with law enforcement, including a recent retail theft case in October.
Video surveillance showed the 34-year-old leaving the gas station in possession of an umbrella without paying, and he was later tracked down and arrested.
During yesterday’s hearing, Commissioner Koppa did note that, while the monetary value of what he took was rather insignificant, totaling $9, stealing from stores is still against the law, and thus the reason a cash bail was given.
Additional terms of his bail include that he is not allowed any contact with any of the Kwik Trip locations in the City of Manitowoc.
Vang will return to Manitowoc County court on January 8th for his preliminary hearing.
