A multi-hour standoff at a Grand Chute hotel ended with one person dead.
NBC26 reports that the Grand Chute Police Department Office was called at around 12:40 Tuesday afternoon (December 30th) to help the Winnebago County Sheriff’s locate an individual.
Responding officers were able to locate the individual’s vehicle at a hotel on South Nicolet Road, where they had barricaded themselves inside a room.
The unnamed individual was believed to be armed and was making comments about using the firearm.
For the next five and a half hours, police and crisis negotiators from the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team tried to talk the individual out of the room.
The negotiations came to an end when officers determined the individual was in need of medical attention.
When they entered the room, the police found that the individual was dead.
While it was not revealed what exactly led to this outcome, the Grand Chute Police Department encouraged anyone experiencing a mental health crisis to call the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.
