With up to half an inch of snow possible this morning, homeowners are being reminded of the local shoveling rules.
In the City of Manitowoc, property owners are required to remove any newly fallen snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property at 6:00 a.m. by 8:00 p.m. that same day.
Any violations will result in a minimum of a $300 fine. Due to this being a safety issue, the City will not give any warnings or additional notifications ahead of time.
In Two Rivers, property owners are allotted 24 hours to remove the snow.
For corner lots, this includes the sidewalk and any ramps to the street pavement.
The City will remove the snow at a cost of $1.25 per linear foot of sidewalk cleared, and additional costs may be charged if justifications for such costs are included in the documentation of the violation.
Any subsequent violations may result in an additional $150 fine.
