A business in Kiel that’s been around for 127 years is closing its doors for good.
C.J. Meiselwitz Furniture will have its final liquidation sale today (December 26th) at its location at 328 Fremont Street during normal business hours of 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Founded by Carl J. Mieselwitz back in 1898, the furniture store has been continuously operating on the corner of Fourth and Fremont Streets and was first founded as a furniture and undertaking operation.
After two generations that followed Carl, the story has been run by Michael and William Curry.
However, the two are set to retire and have made the difficult decision to close the store for good.
Michael says the business has always been about more than furniture, but serving people with honesty, care, and pride.
As he and William retire, Michael finishes saying, “As my brother and I retire, we do so with deep gratitude for the customers, employees, and neighbors who have supported our family for so many years.”
C.J. Meiselwitz Furniture also played an active role in sustaining Kiel’s cultural community by supporting the Kiel Municipal Band and bringing residents together, serving as a host venue for frequent downtown gatherings.
More information about the closure can be found online at meiselwitzfurniture.com.
