It was another successful elk hunting season in Wisconsin.
It was the eighth year the Wisconsin DNR managed the hunt, which opened on October 18th and ended on December 19th.
Thirteen hunters were picked for this year’s hunt in the northern Elk Range and Black River Elk Range.
In total, seven bulls and five antlerless elk were harvested statewide, with all license holders finding success, filling all five antlerless tags and three of four bull tags.
DNR Central Elk Zone Biologist Christina Kizewski explained, “all five antlerless elk were harvested in areas where the reduction of a few elk was intended, making it a successful harvest for the hunters as well as meeting harvest objectives.”
More than 26,000 people applied for an elk hunting license, with four licenses awarded to state hunters and the rest to the Ojibwe Tribes.
Hunters can apply for the 2026 elk hunting season starting in March of 2026.
The application window closes on May 31st.
Next year’s season begins on October 17th.
