Wisconsin’s governor is finishing the year with more pardons.
Governor Evers announced that he has granted another 167 pardons, bringing the total to his time in office to 1,807.
This round of pardons again includes those who’ve previously been convicted of selling or possessing a controlled substance, but does include some people who’ve previously fled from police or wrongfully reported the wrong numbers for food assistance.
Evers said of the pardons. “Many of these individuals have worked to build lives for themselves beyond their past offenses, and many now work to help others do the same.”
The Wisconsin Constitution grants Evers the power to pardon individuals convicted of crimes, an official act of forgiveness that restores the rights lost when someone is convicted of a felony, including the right to serve on a jury, hold public office, and obtain certain licenses.
