Two federal lawsuits have been filed over separate inmate deaths.
WBAY reports that the families of Timothy Nabors Jr. and Micha Laureano have each filed lawsuits claiming the Green Bay Correctional Institution was responsible in part for their deaths.
Nabors died in October of 2022 after being stabbed by Joshua Scolman, who was convicted of the killing, and for attempting to kill another black inmate.
Attorney Lonnie Story has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in that case, to which the state has not yet responded.
Laureano was killed by Jackson Vogel, who told guards he did so because of his race and sexual orientation.
The federal lawsuit in that case claims that the prison should not have put the two in the same cell, because Laureano was designated a “risk of victim” and Vogel was a “risk of victimizer.”
Attorney Story also filed that lawsuit, which has also not been responded to by the state.
