The Superintendent of Two Rivers is giving a behind-the-scenes look at how they decide to make a snow day.
In her monthly report, Diane Johnson explains that she is often asked how the district decides whether to hold school, delay by 2 hours, or cancel altogether.
Her honest answer is that it depends on what’s happening.
Variables in a snow day decision include when the snow starts and stops, wind conditions, whether the snow is light or heavy, the presence of ice, temperature, and more.
Conversations about deciding whether school should happen are not beginning between 4:00 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. with a team that includes the district’s maintenance director, the bus company, and other school districts.
Johnson says once the district decides, they share it through social media, plus local radio and new stations.
