Manitowoc and Two Rivers are among 29 municipalities receiving federal funding for Lead Service Line Replacement.
The Clipper City will receive over $14 million, of which about $7.3 million is for lead service line principal forgiveness, with the remainder provided through a loan at a 0.25% interest rate.
Two Rivers will receive about $571,000 in federal loan funding.
Other cities around Eastern Wisconsin also get a share, including Sheboygan, Kewaunee, Oshkosh, and Fond du Lac.
Sheboygan will receive more than $5 million in Lead Service Line Replacement loan funding.
The $159 million in total financial assistance was provided by the state of Wisconsin and the state’s DNR after receiving funding from the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which included $50 billion for the U.S. EPA to strengthen and rebuild water infrastructure across the country.
In Wisconsin, there are more than 132,000 known public side lead service lines, more than 128,000 known private lead service lines, and more than 208,000 service lines of unknown composition that may contain lead.
