A Manitowoc man is facing a charge of child abuse after a female minor was found with bruising on her backside.
The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office was called to a Manitowoc daycare after staff reported finding bruising on the child.
The child also expressed that she had been hit. Another deputy responded to a home on Johnston Drive to talk to the father, identified as 26-year-old Drew Hein.
A criminal complaint alleges that Hein first said he had no idea about the bruising before saying that he had spanked the 4-year-old once, but felt really bad about it.
Sheriff’s deputies would later find a video of the incident, which showed the child getting hit more than once.
The complaint explains that in the video, the child was spitting food at Hein before he eventually spanked her five times.
The child would lose her balance and fall.
The 26-year-old then told the child to swallow her food before the child was hit in the face twice and told to swallow again.
After a woman at the home admitted to seeing the incident happen, Hein was arrested and charged.
He’s since furnished a $1,000 cash bail and is set to return to court on January 12th for an adjourned initial appeal.
He faces up to six years in prison if convicted.
