Some area businesses are getting grant money from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP).
The money comes from the Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin grant, which helps farms and businesses more efficiently process, market, and distribute locally grown food products.
Misfits Homegrown LLC out of Manitowoc will use its funding to improve customer access to high-quality beef, pork, and poultry products through enhanced distribution, while Prairie Folk Farm in Chilton will get a revamp for marketing efforts and invest in feed systems.
Another business receiving Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin grant money is Main Oriental Market in Green Bay, which will use the funding to ensure fair pay and support for Wisconsin Hmong farmers.
The Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin program began in 2008 with more than 635 applications requesting more than $22.4 million in funding.
