Bail has been set for the man accused of attacking a cab driver in Manitowoc.
19-year-old Cruz R. Cervantes was present for his bail hearing yesterday (December 2nd), where he was given a $650 recognizance bond by Court Commissioner Patricia Koppa.
Cervantes was arrested early yesterday morning following a physical altercation with a Maritime Cab driver and now faces charges of Battery and Disorderly Conduct.
Manitowoc Police were called to the area of South 35th Street and Yorkshire Lane by the driver, who claimed she was assaulted by a passenger.
She continued to tell police that she was called to the area for a pick-up.
The 19-year-old then entered the vehicle and asked the driver if they knew a fellow employee with Maritime Cab.
He then asked if she could call the other employee, but when she made the call, Cervantes began yelling at the individual on the other end.
The female victim proceeded to get out of the vehicle and demanded that Cervantes exit; however, he instead locked all the doors.
Eventually, he exited the vehicle but began punching the cab driver over a dozen times before fleeing back into the apartment where he was originally picked up.
After the assault, he was quickly located by police and taken into custody. Additional terms of his bond include no contact with the female victim or Maritime Cab, and he is to maintain absolute sobriety.
He will next be back inside a Manitowoc County courtroom for his initial appearance on December 18th.
