A Manitowoc man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a cab driver.
The Manitowoc Police Department reports that several officers were dispatched to the area of South 35th Street and Yorkshire Lane just after midnight last night after receiving a call from Maritime Cab reporting the assault.
The officers met up with the alleged victim, who told investigators that they were dispatched to a residence on South 35th Street for a pick-up.
When the man entered the vehicle, he asked the driver if they knew a fellow employee at Maritime Cab and asked if they could call her.
The driver obliged, but once the call went through, the suspect began yelling at the woman on the other end of the line.
The driver walked around the outside of the car to take her phone back, but the suspect had locked all of the doors, which is when she began to yell at him to get out.
The 20-year-old man eventually complied, but instead of leaving, he began hitting the driver with a closed fist, striking her an estimated ten to fifteen times.
He then fled back into the apartment building and was quickly located by police.
He admitted to swinging at the driver but claimed he never hit her.
He was taken into custody on charges of Battery and Disorderly Conduct.
