The Wisconsin Maritime Museum is getting into the Christmas spirit this weekend.
Santa Claus will be making his return to the lakeshore for the Christmas Tree Ship Day hosted by the museum on Saturday (December 6th) from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Santa will arrive on a Susie-Q fish tug with a load of Christmas trees at 10:30 a.m. After docking, he will greet families in the museum. Tours of the USS Cobia will also be available all day long.
The Riverside Gallery will have Tiny Art available for purchase as part of the event. The event reminds people about the tradition of the “Christmas Tree Ship,” or the Schooner Rouse Simmons.
The ship used to bring trees from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to Chicago, and during the trip, Captain Schuenememann would string lights to make the Rouse Simmons look like a big ornament while delivering the trees.
But as the story goes, the ship sank in Lake Michigan, six miles off the coast of Rawley Point near Two Rivers on November 23rd, 1912.
Admission to the event is free, and more information is available online at wisconsinmaritime.org.
