A teenager is heading to trial for being behind the wheel during a fatal car accident in Appleton.
Court records show that 18-year-old Carter Green appeared in Outagamie County court yesterday (December 1st) for a preliminary hearing, which he waived.
Green was charged with one count of First-Degree Reckless Homicide and two counts of Causing Injury while Operating Under the Influence for his role in the fatal car accident that occurred on October 4th in Appleton.
At yesterday’s hearing, the court found probable cause in the case and had the 18-year-old bound over for trial.
On the night of the crash, Appleton PD was called to the intersection of North Richmond Street and the I-41 northbound off-ramp on a report of a significant two-vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, officers found Green’s vehicle engulfed in flames and badly damaged.
Green and his lone passenger had exited the vehicle, however, two individuals were found unconscious in the front seats of the second vehicle.
Both were required to be extricated from the wreckage and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
One occupant would survive, but the driver of the second vehicle would succumb to their injuries at the hospital.
The ensuing investigation revealed that the teenager was operating his vehicle while intoxicated.
It was also learned that he was traveling over 100 MPH when he blew a stoplight and collided with the victim’s vehicle.
Green will next return to court tomorrow (December 3rd) for his arraignment.
