It was a special Thanksgiving Day yesterday for one area marching band.
The Valders Area High School Band marched in the 91st Annual Chicago Thanksgiving Day Parade on State Street for the first time.
They performed various songs at the parade, including “On, Wisconsin,” “Locked Out of Heaven” by Bruno Mars, and “Louie, Louie” by the Kingsmen.
The district’s website says marching band students participate in 30-40 parades, pep rallies, sports events, and halftime shows per year.
Out of the 320 students at the high school, 125 participate in the band program in some way.
98 students made their way to Chicago for this year’s parade.
