The Brillion Fire Department is reminding residents of the importance of having working carbon monoxide detectors.
The department was called to the 7000 block of Lake Road in the Town of Maple Grove in Calumet County for a carbon monoxide detector activation.
Fire crews entered the residence and used one of their four gas meters to detect the presence of combustible and hazardous gases.
The department found a gas oven was malfunctioning causing the hazardous carbon monoxide to fill the home.
The oven was shut off, and the home was ventilated to allow the gas to dissipate.
Brillion firefighters remained on scene for an hour before turning the home back over to the residents.
No one was injured, but firefighters commended the homeowners for having functioning carbon monoxide detectors and for their prompt call.
They also urge all residents to ensure their carbon monoxide detectors are working, as the gas is odorless, colorless, and undetectable to humans.
