A theatrical performance put on by students at Plymouth High School has garnered statewide recognition.
In total, the students won all six state awards they were eligible for after their performance of their one-act play, As the Window Closes.
The five-student crew won the Critic’s Choice Award, the highest available honor for a one-act play given for overall excellence.
They also received the Outstanding Ensemble Award and Outstanding Technical Theatre Award. Individually, Plymouth Senior Addi Arnold, who also wrote the play, won the Outstanding Directing award, while Thora Carpenter and Johnathan Riley each took home an Outstanding Actor Award.
As the Window Closes follows the journey of an unnamed girl, portrayed by Carpenter, who is struggling with the concept of moving on in life.
Throughout the play, she is visited by an unnamed boy, portrayed by Riley, who helps her to find peace in the never-ending flow of time.
The clean sweep for Plymouth High School was announced this past weekend during the annual Wisconsin State High School Theater Festival held at UW-Stevens Point.
While having a history of sending a one-act production to state, this marks the first time in the history of Plymouth High School that a student-written and student-directed play qualified for the competition.
