The Executive Director of the Manitowoc Public Library is looking to give her employees a little extra time off this holiday season.
Karin Adams submitted a letter to the Board of Directors, in which she pointed to the ongoing discussion in the city about employee retention and the honoring of employees for their hard work.
In the letter, Adams stated, “I know that Library employees value their time off, the time that they can spend with their family, friends, or themselves, without worrying about the job. Around the holiday season, I would love to give Library employees time off as a ‘Thank You’ and time to rest, relax, and recharge for the next year.”
She considered giving everyone an additional vacation day, but admitted that idea would pose too many problems.
So instead she suggested delaying the opening of the library on December 26th until 1:00 p.m. and giving everyone a half of a day of paid time off.
She told the board, “I feel that a late opening would reward employees with a little extra time for rest after the holiday and/or family time in the morning, and we would still be serving the public with open hours that day.”
The board will be addressing this proposal at their meeting this evening at 5:00 p.m. in the Library Board Room.
