With snow expected later this week, the City of Manitowoc is reminding residents of the winter parking regulations.
There are two different regulations depending on the severity of the snowstorm.
Mayor Justin Nickles can either declare a Winter Parking Ban during which parking will be disallowed on all marked state or federal highways, city bus routes, industrial truck routes, municipal parking lots, or other designated streets between 1:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Any vehicle not abiding by these rules will be fined $50. In addition to the aforementioned parking bans, when a Snow Emergency is declared, parking will not be allowed on any street in the city during the same time frame.
A vehicle breaking these rules will be fined $75.
It is also noted in the City Code that violating vehicles “may be towed away and reclaimed by the owner only after payment of the towing cost plus a storage charge equal to the City’s cost of such storage. Any vehicles not claimed within 30 days may be disposed of pursuant to Section 16.130 of the Municipal Code.”
