An Elkhorn man who killed his eight-year-old stepson has been sentenced to 25-years in prison.
Court records show 53-year-old Steven Merkel pleaded guilty to first-degree reckless homicide in August for the death of Michael Meagher.
The boy was accidentally shot and killed in January in Walworth County.
Merkel, who admitted to drinking alcohol at the time, was showing Meagher a handgun he thought was unloaded.
He will serve an additional ten years of extended supervision.
