A Kaukauna man has been convicted of causing the crash that killed a woman.
26-year-old Bailey Laux was found guilty due to a no contest plea on a charge of Negligent Operation of a Vehicle for the 2022 crash that claimed the life of Belin resident, 33-year-old Chelsey Jennings.
FOX11 reports that the crash occurred on I-41 northbound near Richmond Street in Appleton on May 3rd, 2022.
Laux admitted to police that he was texting his girlfriend just before crashing into the back of Jennings’ car, which had slowed down along with other traffic on the roadway.
Laux was said to have been travelling at just shy of 80 MPH at the time of the crash and had never hit the brakes.
He could spend up to five years in prison, however it is believed that the prosecutors will ask for a two-year sentence.
