An Appleton Police officer was hit by a car while trying to de-escalate a verbal argument.
Multiple officers were dispatched to a parking lot near South Walnut and West Lawrence Streets just before 2:45 Saturday morning (November 15th).
As the officers attempted to make contact with 21-year-old Katrina Kitzman of Little Chute, one of the people involved, who was in the driver’s seat of a car, she accelerated and drove directly toward two officers.
One was able to get out of the way, while the other was struck.
The woman drove over the officer’s legs with both tires before fleeing the parking lot. She was captured a short distance later.
The officer was taken via ambulance to a local hospital and was released after being treated.
Kitzman was arrested on charges of 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Eluding, Battery to Law Enforcement, OWI 1st Causing Injury, and Resisting Arrest.
