Wisconsin residents continue to be the best at disposing of unwanted prescriptions.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice says the Badger State again ranked number one nationwide for the most prescription medications collected during the fall 2025 Drug Take Back Day, with close to 53,500 pounds of unwanted meds removed from homes.
Since the start of Drug Take Back Day in 2010, Wisconsin has collected a total of 1.4 million pounds of unwanted medications.
The state ranks third in the nation, behind California and Texas, in the amount collected. Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul thanked everyone around the state for their work, saying, “efforts have helped make this such an outstanding program in Wisconsin.”
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) holds two Drug Take Back days a year, with one in the spring and another in the fall, as a way to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible way of disposing of unwanted drugs while educating the community about the consequences that can happen if they get into the wrong hands.
