The City of Kiel has chosen its next city administrator.
According to the minutes from their November 4th meeting, Ryan Pafford was selected to take over the role after current Administrator Dave Funkhouser announced his retirement at the end of the year.
The vote didn’t come without an issue from one Kiel alderman.
3rd District Alder John Brocker read a prepared statement that he was leaving the meeting, then approached Mayor Bob Henning, who tossed the slip of paper.
Henning asked that the statement be added to the meeting minutes, and Brocker left the meeting, refusing to take part in the city’s closed session discussion on Henning’s appointment as city administrator.
After the closed session, Brocker returned to the meeting and was the only no vote in a 5-1 approval of appointing Pafford as Kiel’s next city administrator.
Pafford is the current fire chief of the City of Plymouth.
Funkhouser said he will stay in the city until December before his retirement to help Pafford with the process.
