The City of Two Rivers is asking its residents whether they should continue paying for service from Maritime Metro Transit in Manitowoc.
In a survey, the city explains that it contributes $156,000 a year toward Route 1 operations, funded by property taxes.
The amount has increased by 44% since 2020, when the city was only paying $108,000.
While the service remains valuable for some riders, city staff says it represents a notable annual cost at a time when Two Rivers faces new state-mandated expenses and unfunded mandates.
That could mean any reduction in funding could lead to Route 1 being discontinued altogether.
The survey can be found on Google Docs and will ask you to enter your email before answering six questions about whether Cool City residents think Two Rivers should continue funding the route. Route 1 provides about 20,000 to 30,000 rides a year.
That’s not the number of people they give rides to in a year.
A “ride” is just when a person gets on the bus and has their pass scanned.
