Emplify Health by Bellin is reminding drivers to make sure they are wide awake while behind the wheel.
Experts warn that drowsiness and driving can be a dangerous combination, even leading to fatal consequences.
Dr. Brad Burmeister, emergency physician at Emplify Health by Bellin, says drowsy driving poses a significant threat on the roads, with statistics revealing its alarming consequences.
He noted, “In the United States alone, it is estimated that drowsy driving contributes to over 6,000 fatal crashes each year.”
To prevent drowsy driving and ensure road safety, Dr. Burmeister suggests drivers get seven to nine hours of sleep per night, take regular breaks on long road trips, and share the driving responsibility with others.
If you find yourself becoming drowsy, it is suggested that you pull over in a safe location.
