The City of Sheboygan Common Council has welcomed a new Alder.
At their meeting held earlier this week, an election was held to fill the vacancy on the Council following the resignation of Robert La Fave.
In total, four individuals showed interest in filling his seat, including Alanza Grawien, Kris Johnson, Nicholas LaPoint, and Timm McDonald.
After presentations and deliberation amongst the Council, a vote was held which saw Grawien elected as the newest Alder in Sheboygan.
In her presentation to her now fellow Alders, Grawien stated she is looking to keep partisan politics out of City Hall.
“In this era of polarizing, partisan politics I believe our local government must be different,” she said emphatically. “It must be a place where work collaboratively to reach solutions that benefit the common good. I am not coming with a personal agenda but with a commitment to listen, learn, and to work as part of your team.”
After her win, she was formally sworn in by City Clerk Meredith DeBruin.
Alder La Fave was elected to his position on the Council in the spring of 2024, and now Grawien assumes his role and will serve out the remainder of his term through the spring of next year.
Along with the election of Grawien as District 4 Alder, Alder Jogn Belanger replaces Le Fave on the Finance and Personnel Committee, while District 5 Alder Susie Boorse was appointed to replace him as the Vice Chair of the Licensing, Hearings, and Public Safety Committee.
