A former teacher in Appleton is heading to trial for the alleged sexual assault of a student.
43-year-old Rebecca Ryan was back in Outagamie County court yesterday (November 4th) for a pre-trial conference as she has been charged with three felony counts of Sexual Assault of a Student by School Staff.
At yesterday’s hearing, Judge Mark Schroeder ordered Ryan’s trial to begin on June 23rd of next year after she pleaded not guilty in July to all charges she faces.
The 43-year-old was arrested by the Appleton Police Department after an investigation determined that she engaged in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student in 2017 and 2018.
Ryan previously worked as a teacher at Appleton West High School, but police noted that she was not employed as a teacher at the time of her arrest.
She was originally given a $50,000 cash bail when arrested; however, she has been free after posting it for nearly six months.
