An agricultural service plant near Valders is still operating after a fire last night (November 3rd).
Valders Fire and Rescue explained that they were called to the Quality Roasting facility located on Marken Road.
When they arrived, fire crews found heavy fire on the roof extending up the sides of the facility’s north storage buildings.
The fire started in a cyclone unit used to process materials and spread into a portion of the building before firefighters were able to get it under control.
Suppression and overhaul efforts continued for an hour after making sure all hot spots were extinguished.
No one was injured, and all employees were safely evacuated from the building before fire crews arrived.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing, but early indications suggest it may have resulted from a mechanical or process-related issue within the cyclone equipment.
However, the extent of the damage caused by the fire is not yet known.
Eighteen fire departments from Manitowoc and Calumet County, along with the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office, helped aid Valders Fire and Rescue to put out the fire.
