With budget season in full swing, the City of Plymouth is preparing to present its proposal next week.
The Plymouth Common Council will review the proposal and hold a public hearing on the 2026 City and Utility budget on November 11th, the date of the Council’s next scheduled meeting.
Based on documents provided by the City, the general property tax levy will be $5,945,556 with a total general fund budget of $9,279,946.
The city-assessed tax rate is also set to increase from $6.06 to $6.12, the equivalent of a 1% increase, while the Plymouth assessment ratio is set to decrease by 6% in 2026 compared to this year.
Highlights of the 2026 proposal include 27% of general fund expenditures going toward the Plymouth Police Department, 18% for the Department of Public Works, and 17% being allocated for capital projects.
No other expenses account for more than 7% of the total general fund budget in 2026.
Regarding the proposal, the City stated, “We are confident that the 2026 Budget places the City in a strong financial position to balance resident needs and proactively address issues affecting Plymouth.”
Once approved by the Common Council, the 2026 budget in Plymouth will be available online no later than November 12th.
