A situation involving a kayaker in distress on Lake Winnebago yesterday ended positively.
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, the DNR, and other local fire departments responded to the 24th Avenue Boat Launch in Oshkosh yesterday after learning of a kayaker who was struggling on the water.
Boats were deployed while a ThedaStar helicopter provided a flyover to assist with the search.
The initial search came up empty, but the individual was later located and was said to be safe and unharmed.
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is reminding boaters to check the weather conditions before heading out onto any body of water.
Yesterday’s windy conditions are believed to have been part of the reason the kayaker had issues.
